We are now heating the glassblowing furnace for the NZ summer. We increase the temperature with approx. 100 degrees Celsius (212 degrees Fahrenheit) every 24 hours and when the furnace is up to a temperature of +1420 degrees Celsius (+2620 degrees Fahrenheit) it is time to fire the pot that will hold the molten glass. After firing the pot has to be glazed, which is done with molten glass. After the firing and the glazing the temperature is taken down to +1360 degrees Celsius (+2512 degrees Fahrenheit) and we can melt the first batch of glass – hopefully in time for Christmas.

You are welcome to visit our studio and gallery every day between 10am and 5pm.  We blow glass most days but when the furnace is empty we have to melt new glass over a period of 24 hrs.  If you want to make sure we are blowing on the day of your visit, please give us a ring in the morning to find out.

PS. Remember the studio is closed on Christmas & Boxing Day.
